What: An evening with Marianne, co-founder and Director of ActionStation
When: 6.30-8.30pm, 8 April 2015
Where: Kiwi Landing Pad, 185 Clara St, San Francisco, CA 94107, United States
Over the past decade Ben Brandzel has served as Campaign Director for MoveOn.org and BarackObama.com in the United States, helped found Avaaz and helped guide or start the leading digitally-savvy campaigning organizations in Australia, the UK, Canada, Ireland and more. Now he’s turning his attention and energy to New Zealand. Why?
“The more I travel the more I recognize how vital New Zealand's trailblazing commitments to fairness, equality, and sustainability really are. These values are under ruthless, coordinated assault everywhere. And the world once again looks to New Zealand: Not just to beat back the attacks you face at home, but to set the pace globally for what we can all dare to achieve.”
Over the past year, Brandzel has served as Chief Founding Advisor to ActionStation, working with National Director, Marianne Elliott, to launch a new online community for citizen-led social action, inspired by Avaaz but built by and for Kiwis. Launched in July 2014, ActionStation already has more than 30,000 active members who have taken more than 100,000 actions.
“Can Kiwis rise to this challenge? I've witnessed Marianne and her world class team smash one obstacle after another, and met passionate ActionStation members across New Zealand; I'm ready to place my bet. I hope you'll join me.”
And tens of thousands of New Zealanders are joining Brandzel, including Founding Supporters Phillip Mills, CEO of Les Mills International and Philip Fierlinger, Co-Founder of Xero.
"The stakes for our democracy have never been higher. The challenges facing us today are going to require not only innovation, but the kind of political courage that has historically only been found in grassroots movements. ActionStation brings a new model of member-driven, high-tech, multi-issue, rapid-response, grassroots campaigning to New Zealand. It's a model we need right now. That's why I'm a supporter." ~ Phillip Mills
ActionStation is an independent, progressive multi-issue movement that enables Kiwis to take powerful, coordinated action online and offline. Focused on people power and open democracy, not party politics, ActionStation brings user-centric and nimble, iterative design processes to the world of social action.
Marianne Elliott, Director of ActionStation, will be in San Francisco on 8 April 2015. You are invited to meet Marianne, learn more about the initiaitive, and give your feedback on what you - as a New Zealander or someone interested in New Zealand, living in the Bay Area - might want or need from an initiative like ActionStation.
