Are you a New Zealander living in London who is looking for ways to get involved in taking meaningful, effective action to create positive social and environmental change in New Zealand but unsure how to do that from London? This event is for you.
ActionStation is a recently launched member-led, multi-issue, progressive campaigning movement in New Zealand. It's built to make it really easy for you to get involved in meaningful action for political and social change. We use social media and digital platforms to drive our action, so you can get just as easily involved from London as anywhere.
We launched in June last year, and already have 20,000 active members who have collectively acted in more than 12 campaigns: http://www.actionstation.org.nz/campaigns
The intent of this event is to introduce ActionStation to London-based New Zealanders and will feature drinks, nibbles and three guest speakers:
Ben Brandzel is a founding Board member at Avaaz. He directed new media campaigns and fundraising for President Obama at OFA during the health reform campaign in 2009-10 and was a senior campaigner at MoveOn.org. Ben currently serves on the Advisory Board of the New Organizing Institute and is the Chief Founding Advisor to us at ActionStation
Becky Jarvis until recently was a senior campaign director at 38 Degrees. She's now working with Ben to support the growth of this kind of non-partisan, member-led, multi-issue campaigning globally.
Marianne Elliott is the National Director of ActionStation. She has previously worked in international human rights roles in Afghanistan, Timor Leste and the Gaza Strip and is the author of Zen Under Fire.
