Powerful and well-resourced lobbying works, that's why corporations spend literally billions of dollars on lobbyists and advocates every single year. Opponents of progressive action have developed wide-ranging and creative tactics to challenge progressive policies.
Sometimes simply giving the facts is not enough. Some issues are deeply divisive - we need to know how to have an effective conversation, no matter what the situation.
This December we’re running a training in the key areas of hard conversations and active citizenship. Together we'll equip ourselves with the skills we need to have useful conversations with everyone from decision makers and media to friends and family about the issues that matter.
What will this training cover? We’ll learn how to take apart language, to diagnose what’s working and what’s not and learn how to have a conversation with people who hold a different world view that our own. How to build trust, how to listen and how to frame what we want to say it a way that builds bridges, not increase the divide.
You will learn:
How to start a difficult conversation
How to ask for something
How to go about dealing with objections
How to manage your own frustration
How to speak in public
The general training will go from 1pm - 4pm
From 4pm - 5pm we will be offering a section specifically about how to have conversations about climate change.
Afternoon tea provided.
The cost is on a sliding scale from $5 to $20 - please pay what you are able. You will be sent payment details once you register.
