Confused about what’s happening in Gaza? What matters is ending the killing. Will you support an end to weapon supply?
All eyes are on Gaza right now, where Israel has unleashed the full force of its military against the Palestinian population. More than 1800 Palestinians have died, including hundreds of children. The UN Secretary General called the latest shelling of a UN school "a moral outrage and a criminal act."
When we asked ActionStation members what more they want our political leaders to do to end the carnage in Gaza, they responded with a strong call for a comprehensive arms embargo against Israel and all parties to the conflict. This means cutting off the weapons supply.
Israel’s ability to launch such devastating attacks in Gaza depends on the international military cooperation and arms trade it maintains with complicit governments across the world. On the same day Israeli forces killed 20 Palestinians at a U.N. school this week, the U.S. confirmed it had provided Israel with fresh supplies of munitions, including mortar rounds for tanks and ammo for grenade launchers.
The call will be presented to Prime Minister John Key, Foreign Minister Murray McCully and all Party leaders.
We call on Prime Minister John Key, Foreign Minister Murray McCully and all Party leaders to make all efforts to support a UN-imposed comprehensive arms embargo on Israel, Hamas and Palestinian armed groups, including by calling on the United States Government to urgently suspend arms transfers to Israel.
