A win for people power - the Basin Reserve remains flyover free

With the help of ActionStation members, Wellington’s Basin Reserve will be kept flyover free.

On Friday, the NZ Transport Agency announced it would not seek leave to appeal the High Court decision which upheld the Board of Enquiry decision to decline resource consent for a Basin Reserve flyover. [1] This means Wellington’s Basin Reserve is safe from a flyover.

This is a huge win for the community, as well as for the environment, heritage, and the Basin itself.

ActionStation delivers the donations to the Save the Basin team.

The Save the Basin group and others were able to defeat this controversial roading project, with support from ActionStation members and others. This is why ActionStation exists - to help more progressive New Zealanders take action on the issues they care about and win campaigns. Thank you to those of you who supported Save the Basin when they most needed it. Together we raised $2000 towards their legal case (more donations were made after the delivery of the cheque).

This decision opens the door to new ideas for a more sustainable and people-friendly city. NZTA has indicated it will be engaging with the community and local governments about alternative solutions to deliver a solution that works for Wellington.

People power has won again!
